I find being creative can sometimes actually be like playtime, especially when I am simply playing around in programs/apps and experimenting with different tools, brushes, colours, lighting setups (if applicable), etc. I have ended up randomly creating something I thought was pretty neat while doing this. A couple of things, in particular, I have been trying are creating my own custom vector brushes in Affinity Designer and learning animation in Procreate Dreams.
Speaking of learning, that brings me to the next thing that can feel like “playtime” to me, as strange as that may sound. We don’t often think of learning something new as playing but for me, sometimes it can be especially when again, it involves being creative in some way. However, I am starting to think that I am just someone who feels like whenever I use my imagination, it is a form of playtime or playfulness.
I enjoy the playfulness that my husband and I have. We often joke around, tease one another playfully and have friendly banters. We sometimes find ourselves laughing to the point one or both of us are hurting and believe it or not, when I used to think about what I wanted in a husband, the ability to laugh a lot and for us to just be silly together was important. This was the type of household I grew up in and the type of family I grew up with (both immediate and extended), especially my dad. Although he is serious when needed to be, he has never had trouble making those around him laugh, especially me.
My husband and I also enjoy playing games together sometimes including Super Mario Bros. Monopoly or the video game version of Wheel of Fortune. Although my husband plays more video games than I do these days, there are a few games that I have enjoyed quite a bit in the past. Most recently, Farming Simulator 22 where the main activity is, you guessed it, farming. My husband sometimes calls me Farmer Becca when I play it lol.
There are probably more things that are like playtime to me that I hadn’t thought of while writing this but I will add that I do believe that it’s not just about doing something particular but maybe also having a certain outlook on life. A more playful outlook on life. Of course, “playtime” can mean many different things to different people. What does it mean for you?
